Arrow Season 8After seven seasons, Oliver Queen finally saved Starling City, but as a Crisis loomed he once more stepped unto the breech to save all of reality from annihilation. In this episode we discuss Season 8 of Arrow. We talk about the familiar faces returning, how it works as a wrap-up, the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, and what we thought of the Green Arrow and the Canaries backdoor pilot. We also bring up the ramifications to the greater Arrowverse and discuss why there might be some more Green in the CW’s future soon. As usual we also talk about the characters, acting, and storylines.

In this week’s five-minute controversy we discuss whether moving the original streaming shows off DC Universe signals the end of the service.

In Doctor Who circles, Chapman is best known for playing the role of companion Ben Jackson in Big Finish’s Companion Chronicles and Early Adventures. We talk with Chapman about his career prior to acting, getting started in the profession, and getting cast at Big Finish. We also discuss his opinions on Doctor Who (spoilers: He’s a fan!), how he approaches recreating a character created by another actor, what it’s like working with co-stars Anneke Wills and Frazer Hines, and working with Tom Baker. We close things out by talking to him about why he’s leaving the character behind and what he’s looking to do in the future.

The 42cast Episode 92: We’re in the Endgame Now

Avengers FourIn 2008 Marvel released the movie, Iron Man, and the world would never be the same again. Now with their 22nd film, Marvel brings many of the story threads that they’ve been building for eleven years to a conclusion while leaving the door open for so many more stories. In this episode, we talk about Avengers: Endgame. We talk about the characters, discuss the plot, ponder time travel and parallel worlds, and opine on just where the MCU will go from here. Along the way, we discuss epic battles, characters we were delighted to see again, endpoints, the MVP that no one noticed, and the significance of a finger.

We knew this one would run long, so there is no five-minute controversy this episode.

The 42cast Episode 91: Judgement Day

Discovery Season 2Despite the criticism of the hardcore fanbase, Star Trek: Discovery’s first season was a success. Building on that and attempting to woo more classic fans, Discovery added Pike, Spock, and Number One from the original Star Trek pilot to Discovery season 2. In this episode was talk about the dynamics of Discovery with new captain, Pike in the seat. We also discuss how faithful the portrayals of Pike, Number One, and Spock are to those from the sixty. In addition we discuss the many changes both cosmetic and in the details to the Klingons, Enterprise, Spock’s life story. We also mention the exclusion of the supporting cast, the use of Section 31, and Skynet in the 23rd century, and whether or not the season has a satisfying conclusion. We also discuss our aspirations for season 3.

Due to the availability of some members of the cast there is no five-minute controversy for this week.

Of the movies announced for 2018 or later, Shazam was the only one that was neither rescheduled nor canceled. In this episode, we take a look at the Shazam film. We discuss the Captain Marvel name controversy. We talk about the portrayal of the same character with a young actor and an adult actor. We also talk about the villainy of Mark Strong and whether the Seven Deadly Sins really measure up. We also discuss how the plot of the film worked for us and what we want to see out of a second movie.

Orphan BlackOrphan Black was a series that aired on BBC America. Starring Tatiana Maslany it followed the lives of a group of women who discovered that they were clones. In this episode we take a look back at Orphan Black. We talk about our favorite clones and discuss how her performance, and the technical aspects of the production created the most authentic seeming multi-character performance on television. Nathan and Ryan get into the nature vs nurture debate and how the show weighs in on it. We also talk about diversity in casting, characters and storylines that didn’t work, and whether or not it’s fair to say that the series rebooted itself every season.

Our Five-Minute-Controversy this week asks if the tank top look for Thanos in Infinity War looked ridiculous.
