The 42cast Episode 192: The Day the Music Died

December 14, 2023 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3From the beginning the Guardians franchise has proven to be a surprise hit for Marvel. Many anticipated that the first Guardians film would be a failure, but it garnered a surprising following and has been lauded by many as their favorite MCU films. In this episode we discuss the third installment of the Guardians franchise. We talk about the developments for the various characters. We debate the various elements of the plot. We also discuss whether we think that the Guardians franchise will move on beyond James Gunn or if we’ll see Marvel focus on different cosmic characters.

Due to time constraints this episode does not have a five-minute controversy.

This week Ashley, Wil, and Eric join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 162: Rough Diamonds

So Bad It's GoodWe’ve all had the experience. We see a movie that we know is truly awful by any measurable factor, but we love it anyway. In this episode we discuss the phenomenon that makes something “so bad that it’s good”. We talk about our favorite movies that fit that description and discuss our experiences with the specific media. We also get into what makes a movie “so bad that it’s good” different from movies that are just bad or movies that you disagree with the majority about whether it is bad.

This week’s five-minute controversy asks if Roger Corman’s comments that Marvel could learn a lot about placing character before effects by watching James Cameron films have any validity.

This week J.D., Wil, Daviorr, and Joe join the cast.

WatcherMarvel has gone into the multiverse in a big way. In this episode we take a look at the biggest expression of that to date with What If. We discuss the series as the MCU’s first animation project. We discuss the What If concept and talk about which episodes worked for us. We also debate why this series had such a mixed response from the public and what we want to see from it moving forward. We also talk about what this series could mean for the future of Marvel going forward.

This episode does not contain a five-minute controversy.

This week Mark, Kelley, and Wil join the cast.

July 27, 2020 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Luke_Cage_Season_2Luke Cage was one of the big hits for the initial run of Marvel’s Defenders line of TV shows. Featuring topical storylines and a fantastic soundtrack, Cage resonated with many viewers. In this episode we discuss Cage’s second outting and whether or not it held up to the hype. Along the way we’ll talk about new characters such as Tilda and Bushmaster. We’ll also talk about all the returning cast and how we feel that their stories have evolved since season 1 and how we like it. We’ll also discuss what we like about the show and if season 2 delivered. Finally, we’ll discuss what we would have wanted for season 3 if we’d gotten one.

The five-minute controversy this week asks if the Russos were right to cut Howard the Duck from Avengers: Infinity War.

This week Anji, Mike, and Jennifer join the cast.

42cast_logoThis is it, the first ever, action packed episode of The 42cast, your Ultimate Answer to Fandom, Geekiness, and Everything. We’re a group of podcasters who love talking about geeky subjects. Each week we’re going to come to you with a new topic from the geekisphere. We may talk about a movie, TV show, comic book, video game, novel, trends that we see in fandom or we may even do an interview. The main thing is talking about the things that we love and having fun doing it.

For our first episode Sam, Ryan, Rachele, and myself sit down to ask each other questions and give you some insight into just who this cast of crazy characters is. This conversation covers lots of geeky subjects and will be a great example of the type of topics that will be covered in the show.
