The 42cast Episode 163: Totes the End

November 9, 2022 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Supergirl Season 6Supergirl was a mainstay of DC’s CW offerings for years. Starting as a CBS show, it was moved to the CW with its second season and eventually integrated into the Arrowverse during the Crisis on Infinite Earths event. In this episode we discuss the final season of the series. We talk about the efforts that had to be made to write around star, Melissa Benoist’s pregnancy as well as the Covid-19 pandemic. We also get into the overall plot of the season and whether we felt that this was fitting for a series finale. Finally, we discuss the characters and their interactions and mention what we liked and didn’t about the season. Along the way we also discuss the cameos and who we’re most satisfied seeing and not in this final outing for the series.

This week’s five-minute controversy asks if it’s acceptable to digitally recreate an actor who is still alive.

This week Ryan, James, and Cammie join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 107: Deus Lex Monitōrem

April 12, 2021 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Supergirl_Season_5Supergirl was the series most effected by Crisis on Infinite Earths in the 2019-2020 season. Kara’s entire world was rewritten to fit it into the Arrowverse, and Lex Luthor had a hand in altering his own status as well. In this episode we discuss the two halves of the season, first discussing Earth-38’s swan song and then discussing the new status quo of the combined Earth Prime. We talk about the character arcs and performances with a strong focus on Lex and Lena Luthor. We also debate the series’ choices with villains and end things with our predictions of where season 6 will go.

In this week’s five-minute controversy we ask if the character of Ralph Dibny should be recast or ignored in the Arrowverse from now on.

This week Ryan; James; and newcomer, Cammie, join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 56: Alien Nation

October 14, 2019 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Supergirl_Season_FourFour years and 2 networks into the series, Supergirl seems to have finally found it’s footing. In this episode we discuss difficulties of writing for the eternal optimism of Kara Danvers. We also discuss John Cryer’s surprising turn as Lex Luthor, Brainiac 5’s addition to the cast, and why a little moral ambiguity goes a long way in a series like this.

Instead of a 5-minute controversy, this week we discuss all of the things that we’re looking forward to after Marvel’s SDCC announcements.

This week Ryan, Mike and Michael join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 42: Reign of the Worldkillers

January 15, 2019 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Supergirl_Season_3In its 3rd year, Supergirl was fraught with problems. The showrunner was fired, and the show suffered from production delays. In this episode we look back at the season and talk about what worked and what didn’t. We’ll talk about how the show has changed and how we think that it should stay the same. We also discuss the character relationships and how they’ve developed from the beginning of the series before making our predictions for season 4. We’ll also talk about how the Worldkillers stack up against Kara’s foes from seasons past.

This week Ryan, James, and Michael, join the cast.

December 27, 2017 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Supergirl_Season_TwoThis week we take a look at Supergirl’s sophmore season. The series had a surprising rescue when CBS declined to renew it for a second season and the CW decided to pick it up. The new showrunners decided to alter some elements of the show. The second season saw the debut of many new characters as well as a heightened political commentary. In this episode we talk about the changed premises, the new characters, and what happens when you jump the network.

This week Ryan, James, and Beth join the cast.
