The 42cast Episode 219: Time After Time

December 16, 2024 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Legion Season 3Legion was one of two TV series that Fox produced while owning the X-Men license. The story followed David Haller, the son of Professor Charles Xavier; his struggles with mental health; and his development as one of the most powerful mutants on the planet. The series was told from the point of view of this unreliable narrator which sometimes lead to strange visuals and editing choices. In this episode the cast discusses the third and final season that focused on time travel and the consequences of various characters’ actions. Along the way they talk about the various characters, what they think about the use of time travel in this season, mental health and how its depicted in the series, and whether or not this is a satisfying ending for the series.

Our five-minute controversy asks if we have concerns over the closing of Marvel TV and the move of all future TV projects to Marvel Studios.

This week Anji and newcomer, Pat, join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 180: Batman Begins Again

April 12, 2023 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Gotham Season 5Although DC has had many television series in the last few years, Gotham was one of the strangest and most surprising. Lasting for five-years on the Fox network, the series showcased a Gotham city before Bruce Wayne became Batman. Despite some very unusual takes on some of the mainstays and minor characters of the Batman franchise the show thrived as it developed throughout its seasons. In this episode we discuss the fifth and final season of Gotham. We talk about the changes to the characters, the pieces of Batman lore worked into the season, and our thoughts on the season’s plot. We also discuss the finale episode and whether we think that there’s a possibility of a continuation.

In this week’s five-minute controversy the cast discusses their opinions on the casting of Robert Pattinson in The Batman.

This week Mike, Gary, and Michael join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 105: The Skyler Samuels Interview

March 29, 2021 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Frost SistersThe 42cast is proud to welcome Skyler Samuels for an interview. In this episode, Nathan sits down to talk with Skyler about her beginning in acting and the pressures and positives of being a child star. They discuss The Nine Lives of Chloe King, what Skyler enjoyed about the role, how she feels about the series now, and ask the all-important Team Brian or Team Alek question. They also do a deep dive on The Gifted. Skyler talks about the cast and crew and how well they all geled together. Nathan asks her about the X-Men franchise and how she feels about her place in it. They also get into the technicalities of an actress duplicating herself and end up geeking out about Orphan Black. They also discuss their mutual love of dogs and Skyler talks about dog rescue and how the Gifted cast and crew were all dog lovers. They also talk about the possibility of The Gifted cast ever getting together to do a virtual panel and Nathan receives a surprise endorsement. Skyler finishes by talking about one of her upcoming projects.

As this is an interview episode there is no five-minute controversy.

The 42cast Episode 101: Mutatis Mutandis

February 28, 2021 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Gifted_Season_2The Gifted was one of Fox’s last adaptations of the X-Men mythos. Set in a nebulous time in the near future after the X-Men and Brotherhood have disappeared, The Gifted chronicled the story of every day mutants who have to deal with a world where they’re feared and hated. The second season of the series deals with the aftermath of the split of the mutant Underground as half the members choose to ally with the Hellfire club. We discuss first season of The Gifted back in episode 37. Now, for the first time we’re airing our discussion of season 2 which had been lost to the archives until now.

In this episode we talk about new characters Reeva Payge and Rebecca Hoover and how they alter the trajectory of the series. We also discuss the morality of Jayce Turner and Andy Strucker as both continue to make questionable choices. We also mention the “third choice” and why the Morlocks add some complexity to the mutant question. We also get into mutant parenthood, the fine line between drama and melodrama, and John’s fashion choices. We also talk about what we think would have happened if the series had gotten a third season.

In this week’s five-minute controversy we discuss whether an almost 3 hour runtime is too much for Avengers: Endgame.

This week James, Mike, and Anji join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 45: The Inhumans Among Us (We Watched It so You Don’t Have to)

March 16, 2019 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Marvels_InhumansMarvel’s Inhumans made history by being the only MCU series to not be renewed for a second season. With controversial choice of showrunner, Scott Buck, helming the show, the series suffered from poor ratings and poor reception from the fanbase. In this episode we examine the Inhumans series and examine what went wrong. In addition we examine the context of the show and the usage of the characters within the fabric of the greater MCU as well as how the characters from adapted from their comics origin. We also talk about the things that we liked about the show. After that we talk about whether the MCU should scrub the show from the continuity or what we would do to salvage it in the ongoing Marvel narrative.

This week Mark; Mike; and newcomer, Joe, join the cast.
