Timestreams 15: The Sixties Rise of the Machines (The Masters of Luxor)

May 30, 2022 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Masters of LuxorIn this episode Nathan and Juliette talk about the story that almost went out in place of The Daleks, The Masters of Luxor. Along the way Juliette opines on the measure of a man. Nathan ponders how Doctor Who would have been different if this had been the second serial transmitted. They both discuss machine overlords, totalitarian regimes, and ideas that would later be realized in the Cybermen.

Timestreams 14: Waiting for Roxane (Farewell, Great Macedon)

March 22, 2022 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Farewell Great MacedonIn this episode Nathan and Juliette talk about their first true Lost Story, Farewell, Great Macedon. This story could have been part of Doctor Who’s first season but writer, Moris Fahri, was unwilling to undertake the extensive rewrites asked of him by the Doctor Who production office. However, he kept his script intact, so Big Finish was able to adapt it into an audio drama in 2010. In this episode our intrepid time team discuss the setting and what they know about Alexander the Great. Along the way they discuss Christianity in Doctor Who, John Dorney’s driven performance, Ian’s wrestling prowess, and the Doctor playing to the crowd. They’ll also discuss things that don’t work and what those extensive rewrites were probably all about.

The 42cast Episode 94: The Elliot Chapman Interview

November 6, 2020 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Ben JacksonThe 42cast is proud to welcome Elliot Chapman for an interview. In Doctor Who circles, Chapman is best known for playing the role of companion Ben Jackson in Big Finish’s Companion Chronicles and Early Adventures. We talk with Chapman about his career prior to acting, getting started in the profession, and getting cast at Big Finish. We also discuss his opinions on Doctor Who (spoilers: He’s a fan!), how he approaches recreating a character created by another actor, what it’s like working with co-stars Anneke Wills and Frazer Hines, and working with Tom Baker. We close things out by talking to him about why he’s leaving the character behind and what he’s looking to do in the future.

As this is an interview episode there is no five-minute controversy.

Show Notes:
Elliot’s stories that he’s worked on for Big Finish
