The 42cast Episode 183: It’s About Time

May 25, 2023 by Dastari Leave a Comment

About TimeTime travel is one of the classic expressions of science-fiction. H.G. Wells went there with his time machine and Hollywood has gone to that well many times and told us many stories with that idea as their basis. In this episode we do a deep dive on time travel. We discuss the methods and philosophies of time travel that we’ve seen in various stories. We’ll talk about our favorite stories with time travel, and we’ll also talk about ones that we had issues with. We also debate the merits of the ending of Infinity War and discuss how time travel is effecting the MCU.

Since there are four guests this time there is no five-minute controversy.

This week Ryan; Alli; Leigh; and newcomer, Kravyn, join the cast.

We talk about why the multiverse is a concept that holds our interest. Finally we give our recomendations for things that have used the multiverse well that you should check out.

The five-minute controversy this week asks whether misleading information should be allowed in movie trailers whether it is intentional or unintentional.

This week Stephen, Alli, and Tom join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 131: Warping the Box Office Part One

November 9, 2021 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Trek Films Part OneIn 1977, Star Wars was released to movie theaters worldwide and created a smash hit phenomenon. Seeing the fervor for media content and merchandise many other sci-fi properties tried to horn in on the action. Star Trek had had a loyal fanbase since the 60’s and even had a new television series in the works, but with Star Wars blowing up the theaters it made sense that Star Trek could follow suit and also win big at the box office. The TV project, Star Trek: Phase II was shut down and Star Trek: The Motion Picture came to the big screen in 1979. The series of six movies that it spawned led to a revitalization of interest in Star Trek as well as a continuation for the actors who played the iconic roles. In this episode we have the first half of our discussion of the movies in which we talk about Star Treks I – III. We discuss how the big screen changed Trek, the themes of the different movies, whether the evens vs odds rule really works.

Our five-minute controversy this week asks if it would be a smart move for Disney to quit publishing Marvel comics and license to another publisher.

This week Stephanie is cohost and Ryan and Eric join the cast.

The 42cast Episode 91: Judgement Day

October 13, 2020 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Discovery Season 2Despite the criticism of the hardcore fanbase, Star Trek: Discovery’s first season was a success. In addition we discuss the many changes both cosmetic and in the details to the Klingons, Enterprise, Spock’s life story. We also mention the exclusion of the supporting cast, the use of Section 31, and Skynet in the 23rd century, and whether or not the season has a satisfying conclusion. We also discuss our aspirations for season 3.
