Timestreams 14: Waiting for Roxane (Farewell, Great Macedon)

March 22, 2022 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Farewell Great MacedonIn this episode Nathan and Juliette talk about their first true Lost Story, Farewell, Great Macedon. This story could have been part of Doctor Who’s first season but writer, Moris Fahri, was unwilling to undertake the extensive rewrites asked of him by the Doctor Who production office. However, he kept his script intact, so Big Finish was able to adapt it into an audio drama in 2010. In this episode our intrepid time team discuss the setting and what they know about Alexander the Great. Along the way they discuss Christianity in Doctor Who, John Dorney’s driven performance, Ian’s wrestling prowess, and the Doctor playing to the crowd. They’ll also discuss things that don’t work and what those extensive rewrites were probably all about.

November 25, 2021 by Dastari Leave a Comment

FragranceIn this episode Nathan and Juliette talk about their first audio drama with the Lost Story, The Fragile Yellow Arc of Fragrance. This script was never meant to be performed, but writer Moris Fahri submitted it to the Doctor Who production office to show them what he could do. In this episode Juliette discusses how the enhanced audiobook format may not be so enhanced. Nathan is upbeat about a not-so-happy ending. Finally, the both bring it home by stating why this never could have been an actual story within the Doctor Who universe.

The 42cast Episode 133: Get to Know the Cast

November 23, 2021 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Coat of ArmsWe’ve been podcasting for almost five years, but you’ve only had the opportunity to learn about a small fraction of our cast. We decided now is the time to rectify that situation. In this episode we sit down with three of our most prolific castmates. We ask each other geeky questions and give you some insight into our characters. It’s the same format as episode one, but it’s so much fun that we’ll probably do it again.

Due to a lack of material, there is no five-minute controversy this week.

This week Stephanie, James, and Mike join the cast.

The Reign of TerrorIn this episode Nathan and Juliette talk about the Doctor Who serial, The Reign of Terror. In this one Juliette puts on her professors hat and schools Nathan on French history. Nathan relates the crazy story of why episodes 1, 2, 3, and 6 of The Reign of Terror exist but not 4 and 5. Both talk about the spectacle that is the Doctor’s hat. Along the way they discuss the revolution’s similarities to modern political discourse, the rising role of the Doctor, and whether it’s appropriate to use humor to discuss dark times in history.

The 42cast Episode 109: Chicago TARDIS 2016 – Forty[ish] Years of the Tin Dog

April 28, 2021 by Dastari Leave a Comment

Tin DogK-9 has been delighting fans of Doctor Who for almost 45 years. With this new anniversary looming, we thought it would be a great idea to release a con panel from Chicago TARDIS 2016 about the character’s 40th anniversary. In this panel we discuss what makes K-9 so endearing. We discuss the writing, performances, audience identification and other factors. We also talk about reasons that people didn’t like K-9 and why we feel that K-9 and Company didn’t go to series. We also ask the deep questions such as “would the addition of K-9 make any series better?” and “does the Doctor have more K-9’s stashed away in the TARDIS?”

As this is a con panel, there will be no five-minute controversy this week.

This week Rob Shearman, Gary Russell, Erika Ensign, and Adrienne Provenzano join the cast.
